Whale Bone Memento Mori

Whale bone memento mori skulls were often carved by fishermen on Whaling ships during Victorian times. Often at sea for long periods and with a high mortality rate due to both dangerous sea conditions and poor health they were carved, not only to pass time, but as a constant reminder that death was never far away.
